Britannia BeachRich in History
Steeped in history, Britannia Beach offers a wealth of activities and attractions for visitors to explore. Spawning from Dr. Forbes 1888 mineral discovery in the area, Britannia Beach came to being as a copper mine and later the adjoining community. The once booming mine has since closed, and later declared a National Historic Site in 1988.
Still the centrepiece of the town, the mine is now open to visitors as the BC Museum of Mining, which recently enjoyed a multi-million dollar facelift and restoration. Visitors can enjoy tours in the mine shafts, gold panning, and even the occasional accoustic performance or art exhibit deep within the mines chambers.
With the mine no longer operating, this quaint village has naturally adopted a unique arts and crafts culture, further enhancing visitors choices for a day exploring the town.
How to Get Here
Located right along Highway 99, just 10 minutes before Squamish, you can't miss Britannia Beach en route from Vancouver to Squamish. Likewise from Squamish, it's just a 10 minute drive south, and you'll see the mine n clear view on your left.
