Squamish Sustainability Corporation (SSC) is an arms length wholly owned entity of District of Squamish. SSC operates the Adventure Centre, which acts as a portal for tourism/business development and other projects that foster sustainability for the community.
The Adventure Centre houses a unique collaboration between SSC, the Chamber of Commerce www.squamishchamber.com [1], the BC Centre for Tourism Leadership and Innovation www.bctli.ca [2] and a host of project/event specialists. Hence, agencies and individuals supporting business and tourism development function collaboratively, the only truly sustainable paradigm for community development.
The Squamish Adventure Centre is the Gateway to the Sea to Sky region, it is a Welcome Centre surpassing any of its kind; a destination exhibit that will engage; architecture that inspires - it is a symbol of how a community perceives its future.
This 9,500 square structure stands like the Sydney Opera House in timber; its sweeping roofs lines mirror the spread of eagle wings, its perch on Highway 99 is comprised of native rock, ancient wood, ponds and waterfalls that all reflect Squamish’s natural surroundings and spectacular vistas.
Backing onto the famous Smoke Bluffs Climbing Park, adjacent from the community created Rose Park, and walking distance to the Squamish’s downtown and estuary, the Adventure Centre is also exceptionally located.
The internal exhibit will inspire the adventurous spirit, offering the opportunity to: “see it”, “try it”, “now, do it!” Moving through the exhibit the guest will complete their visit with an 8 minute show in the sunken theatre, pass through the inviting café and retail space and then have the opportunity to “do it” via the Activity & Accommodation booking desk. An entertaining space that will engage everyone from the couch potato to the adventure extremist, to enjoy, indulge and invest in Squamish.
